Earlier this year I backordered a domain name from GoDaddy. It is an important URL to me since it is my name .com (e.g. johnsmith.com )
I e-mailed the owner of it through GoDaddy and he transferred it to me after his registration expired a few days later. This was in May. Ihave since developed the website.
Now he is asking me to give it back to him since he didn’t realize I was a different "johnsmith" than he had been working with. I didn’t intend to dupe him, he just gave away the URL for essentially free without checking his facts.
Now the other "johnsmith" is mad he lost his rights. I’m very new to domain name sales/acquisitions, etc.
What would you do?
The answer to your question depends on your intent for the domain name.
If you intend to keep it for your continued use, then ignore him. You have no obligation to even reply back at all.
If you are the least bit considering giving it to him, then tell the other party you have every intent to use it for your purposes but are open to consideration. Find out what the other party has to offer, but don’t offer any specific figure or state you can sell it to him.
Whatever happens, be sure to document and keep everything. If ever you agree with any of the parties involved, get it in writing if possible.

The person offered the full price I had listed on my domain. BUT I received aonther offer since then. So I counter offered back 1500 more..This is new for me, is that too much? thanks
Depends how much they need it.
For instance, How much is a 1740 Wedgewood Vase?
Answer: exactly how much the other person is willing to pay.
You could always follow up with a "how was that" Email if they don’t respond, and work downwards, you can’t work upwards.

There is a domain name for sale and I was wondering how do you find out if the domain name is going to expire soon? I don’t want the domain name that bad so I’m not wanting to fork over a lot of cash for it.
there is something called "whois" gives you all the registration information you need for the TLD top level domain name that you want. i have purchased alot of domain names and that is the best way to find it. there are alot of services out there for free to find out more information about a domain name. if you are interested in one i wouldn’t let the owner know because they will renew it and you will have no way to get it except pay the money they ask for. i beleive it is 15 days after a domains registration is up that other people have the ability to purchase it.
you have to be fast.

seems to do a good job

Need info/suggestions about where to buy a domain name to set up a web page for info about our tribe will need several buttons for other pages with in site, with pics and emails, but no sales?
If its a small time site AKA not many visoters you probably want to go with bravehost or tripod Best thing is you can get it for free but your adress would be like yourusername.bravehost.com. If it is larger you could go with yahoo web hosting which is available for $10 a month and up. This price includes domain name(www.yourdomainname.org).

I am pretty good with coming up with catchy titles. So for fun, I checked a list of for-sale domain names. Bought a cheap one, had an offer from someone who REALLY wanted it. Sold it for 15x the price. I didn’t ask why the person wanted it, but do you think this was just a fluke? I know there are all these sites that give suggestions on how to make a profit this way, but I see it more as an art form that can’t be taught. It doesn’t seem likely one can predict what domain name is going to just be the right one for a buyer. What do you think?
Well a lot of people do this, so I don’t think its a fluke. Some domain registrars offer services to make this more automated.

Internet Domain Name for Sale
How much could I get from
Babylambo.com
and baby-lambo.com
In reference to the Lamborghini Gallardo its nick name is baby lamborghini
It depends on a buyer who might be crazy for this domain.
If he is running a business for lamborghini parts, may be, he will pay more. Lamborghini owners might pay more.
I say, expect between $35 to $250 for each of these domains.

What would you think is a very good or the best place to put domain names for sale?
Many thanks!
Domain name forums like DNForum, NamePros or if you have a .ca domain CanadianDots.ca
Domain name auction sites like Afternic, Tdnam, maybe even EBay
Sedo, GreatDomains if your name is good enough and you’re looking for top dollar.
Which is best depends on the name, how quick you are looking to sell, whether it’s just a domain name or if a site comes with it.

What is the procedure for the sale of an internet domain name?
Always remember that the current domain name resale market is much weaker than it was just a couple of years ago, at the height of the Dot-com bubble.
Back then, if you owned a decent domain name, you could generally sit back and wait for the buyers to come to you. Nowadays, you need to be much more proactive in your approach if you want to successfully sell your domain name(s).
At the same time, never discount the possibility of "walk-in" buyers; in other words, potential buyers coming across your domain name during a search, and enquiring about its availability.
To this end, it’s essential that you keep your Whois record (the record of ownership of your domain name) updated at all times, and free from errors. You just never know who might be trying to contact you!

I buy and sell regularly. I find I buy about three domain names for every one I sell. I try to buy from the lowest cost registrar and sell on Ebay. I make about $20 per sale so its not a full time job. The registrar I use is http://www.TemeculaValleyDomains.net they are the cheapest and have for sale pages for free.
