I would like to set up 2-3 websites. They are small (1-2 pages), only to advertise some freelance work. I would like to have separate domain name for each. Now the my question is (as I never did anything like that): can I get ONE account at a hosting service, and keep everything at the same place? Or must I open an account for each of these websites?
I guess, I don’t have much space requirement, neither bandwidth, so i though it is more economical to keep things together. I am totally beginner in this, so it may be a lame question.
Yeah, that’s what I do. I have over 20 websites on the same account.
I recommend one of these: http://www.hosttell.com/
Powweb has the best offer right now. It’s on a 50% sale – $3.88/month ($46.56/year), and you get a free domain from them.
P.S. Since you didn’t use this option earlier here’s how to set it up. You just need to add your existing domains in your Powweb control panel, set the path to them and create subfolders for each one in your root folder. You don’t have to transfer your existing domains. You just need to enter your new host’s nameservers in your domains control panel. For example if you’ve registered your domains with Godaddy, log in to your Godaddy account and enter NS1.powweb.com and NS2.powweb.com for your new nameservers. They will connect to your hosting account and will be totally separate websites. (after you enter the new nameservers it might take up to 24 hours for DNS records to propagate, but usually it doesn’t even take an hour). Now, whenever you want to add a new website (something.com):
1. just register a domain name (wherever you want)
2. enter: NS1.powweb.com and NS2.powweb.com as nameservers
3. add the domain name in your hosting control panel
4. and create the subfolder (with the same name) like something.com (you can name it anything you want, but it’s easier to manage them if you name it the same as your domain)

I have heard of domain wars where a person could try to get another to remove their website if the name sounds similar to theirs. The domain name I am trying to purchase has been registered, but is not in use. It appears to have been purchased by a web page publishing company almost a year ago. Is it possible they are holding on to it in attempts to sell it?
If I use the .net site of the same name, what can I do to protect myself? Do you think it is wise to contact the person who registered the .com site to see if he is willing to sell it, or if they plan to use it?
fyi… I’m a beginner at all this, but am trying to do all the work on building my site on my own.
Thanks so much for your responses. Do you think it would make sense to backorder the website? It is available on backorder.
If you register a domain name that’s their trademark, they can take it from you (it takes a court order, though). If they don’t own the trademark, no. If this is a business site, the domain name should be your trademark (or you should trademark it), so you don’t have this problem. (Building a website takes more than knowing where to click, huh?)

I would like my own domain name and Web site. What is the nicest looking, easiest way to go about accomplishing this?
There are lots of sources which can provide you the whole package in a very cheap prices. You can select design for your website from a bunch of templates & publish it after editing information.
They are very user friendly.
If you are planning to launch you website to sell you skills then you can also use other sources also, which provide you a platform to promote & sell you skills online.
Thanks
Ben

I am registered with godaddy, one domain name and i have also chosen to have them host my site.
I have heard a few people talk about Coffee Cup, some about CuteFTP.
My questions is, what FTP site do you recommend I use that will not expire, and that I can log into from any computer?
It has been a very long time since I ran a website, I am very smart with HTML so the site you give me doesn’t have to be for beginners.
>>My Main Concern: being able to log in wherever, whenever, and not a ‘trial’ version.
Thanks guys!
Filezilla is one of the best FTP Clients available on the net, paid or free.

I have registered a few domain names through godaddy and I would like to design some custom websites that are better than just the plain page with the blue links. Is there software that is good for a beginner and has pretty powerful web tools? Also, what do I have to do on godaddy’s end to have my website displayed on the internet. Do they have a page and/or size limit?
Microsoft’s Front Page is finished. There is no current version. Drewamweaver is the industry standard. However, it is expensive and you are a novice. Use the free, open source package, NVU. It’s development environment is similar to Dreamweaver’s so if you ever feel the need to power up, you will already be comfortable working that way.

I’m quite a beginner on blogging, I’ve just started my own blog from the last two months (blogging was great!:) and well, I was just wondering what a domain name was for, it’s quite unclear to me, plus why does it cost money?
oh yeah, I know that they get the .com stuff and all, but I’m just wondering what it’s for, ’cause you see, I have a tumblr…
Don’t trust any cheap service, many of them don’t allow you to have full control on your domain name. If you’re going to buy domain names, refer to:
http://www.goldpuma.com/
GoldPuma is the lowest cost service which is full-featured and really works for you ($9.99 /year). They offer free extras with every domain name:
Quick Blogcast

Personalized Email Account
Starter Web Page For Sale/ Parked Page
