Distance MBA in Finance or IT – does add any value for software professionals??

Hi
I’ve a little bit of confusion in selecting the most suitable MBA course and the management institute for me. I’ve experience of working in IT industries for more than 4 years and most of it is in financial/brokerage services domain. I’ve worked as Business Systems Analyst as well as Software Test Engineer and for that I’ve a little bit of awareness of brokerage and other financial services and I’ve a knack in those subjects as well. Currently I’m working as a Test Professional in a ‘non-finance’ [computer/printer software related] domain. I’m looking for an MBA degree (thru distance learning), which would help me grow in my career. Now the concern is whether it is advisable to do distance MBA in Finance domain or MBA in Information Technologies. Also can somebody please help me in finding out the best institute for me.Following names in my mind –
1. Sikkim Manipal University, [MBA-IT : 2yrs]
2. Symbiosis, [PGDIT: 2yrs]
3. Amity University [MBA - IT: 3yrs]

Plz help! Thanks!

Hi,
I will suggest you to general MBA from distance learning. General MBA also covers Finance, Economics, Operations Management, Information Technology in details to understand the domains. As I understood you want to learn these domains and not want to become expert. If you have bandwidth then many management universities like MDI, FMS in Delhi run executive MBA program as evening classes. Otherwise, these days all reputed colleges run Executive MBA through sat-elite in all major cities. For more information check http://www.mbatopcolleges.com/Executive%20MBA.aspx

Why does yahoo pirate its way into my companies domain name "aapexmrtg" to advertise its website "answer.yahoo

I pay-for-click with yahoo, as if that is not enough, yahoo is using my domain search to advertise its websites, and aloud others to do so as well.

Proof of keyword search, "aapexmrtg" and result is listed bellow.

Yahoo! Answers – what is a REVERSE MORTGAGE and how does it work?

What a bunch of crap. Anyone giving Overture/Yahoo pay per clikc money is throwing it out the window. It is so out of control over there. My account is offline since I learned of these kinds of practices. I am MAD and I am feeling ripped off.

If I buy a product I expect to know what I am getting. If you are not careful with Overture/Yahoo you get promoted in these ways. I recommend you go back to a system of exact matching and NEVER let Yahoo! blanket match or content match for you, it’s insane!

To go a step further, Yahoo! has forsaken its roots as a search engine. I love their software but their core was search engine. I have many entries in the directory, it used to be this was a good thing. They cost me 300/yr. Noe for this about one would expect some value in the search results of their web results especially when their web results have no good answers. You value as a URL in their directory buys you NOTHING. It is completely outragious because it used to hailed as the best hand editied reference and now is blown away with web results in its place that are often POOR results.

If you’re listening NEO (YAHOO!) your network is crashing and you need to stop bleeding the pay-per-click world for you mistakes. Go back to your roots, learn from your mistakes. Oh yeah, continue to make the software, I like the messenger but not the widget engine.

I better get best response for this!

How do I start my own online magazine?

I already know what I want it to be about and have finances to spare. I mean, literally, what steps do I take? Is there software? Do I buy a domain name? Etc.

You have to buy a name (keep it short) through a place like Godaddy.com (about $9 a year) and site space.

If you don’t anticipate using a lot of space you might want to check out $1 hosting which costs $60 for the first year and $12 each additoinal year, but you only get 20 MB of space which will hold about 14 MB of pages or data.

One the up side it has unlimited bandwidth.

You can’t use it for adult content. You have to get to a special adult site host for that and that is expensive.

A lot depends on what your content is. If it’s mostly text with maybe a picture or 2 you can use Word and save has an HTML page.

You do need to understand raw coding to take a lot of this apprach otherwise you will need to spend $$$ and get a program like Dreamweaver or Front Page

If you need a secure site and on-line store, it would be best to get with a bigger host, but that will cost you $40+ a year, every year and you are now LIMITED in your bandwidth to about 30/50GB per month.

The magazine I work with gets about 10,000-20,000 page views a month and we have lots of pictures so our bandwidth approaches 25 GB per month and we are almost at our limit.

Also we are using up space like crazy. We are now taking up almost have of our 500 MB, but we have thousands of pages and tons of pictures.

Don’t expect to get advertisers. We just finally qualified for per click and we don’t make all that much. It basically covers site costs.

Selling and financing my business ~ how should I protect myself.?

Hello,

I am selling my online business and found a buyer. My business is a profitable business. We agreed to the buyer putting a big amount down and then paying the balance over a period of 7 months. We are going to obviously have an agreement in writing. My question however is… At what point do I transfer the domain name and bank accounts over to the new owner? I feel like I should keep something in my name until it is paid in full so that I can protect myself. Please give me your feedback on this.

Thanks!

Securing with the domain name will probably do the job, if the new owner agrees to that. However, chances are they will not.
So the best thing you can do, is try to secure the financing with something outside of the business. For example a note on the property owned by the buyer.

If you are not using an attorney, get one. They will come up with a method to get you the most secure financing available.

I need help locating someone who can assist me with a small business grant writer or consultant?

Right now, I only have a domain name set up and need some financing for a web developer to get me set up. I am looking to obtain a grant for a small business LLC. What should i do first? Should i get the business name in operation first before working on the grant? This business will be located in Pennsylvania. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. I am not seeking too much money here, but $15 – $20K would be good.

Thanks!

Finding a grant writer to help write the grant is not much use. It is hard to find grants to start a business, especially for your purpose.

Unlike the myths that some perpetuate, federal government and even private foundations hardly give grant money for a for-profit business. And yes, grants mean PAPERWORK – lots and lots of it, that is why a cottage industry of grant writers was born.

Nonetheless, you can go to the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) http://www.cfda.gov and Grants.gov http://www.grants.gov – these are two sites created by the federal government to provide transparency and information on grants. Browse through the listings and see if you can find any grant that would support a for-profit venture.

Even if you buy books on "how to get grants" or list that supposedly has information on grants — all of them are mere rehash of what CFDA has, albeit packaged differently. But still the info is the same – hardly any grants for starting a for profit business.

Even SBA does NOT give out grants. From the SBA website http://www.sba.gov/expanding/grants.html…

"The U.S. Small Business Administration does not offer grants to start or expand small businesses, although it does offer a wide variety of loan programs. (See http://www.sba.gov/financing for more information) While SBA does offer some grant programs, these are generally designed to expand and enhance organizations that provide small business management, technical, or financial assistance. These grants generally support non-profit organizations, intermediary lending institutions, and state and local governments."

Here is a listing of federal grants for small businesses. See if there is any available for individuals for starting a business — THERE’S NONE.
http://12.46.245.173/pls/portal30/CATALOG.BROWSE_BENEF_RPT.show

Most of the federal grants are given to specific target groups with specific requirements (e.g. minority business owners involved in transportation related contracts emanating from DOT – Grant#20.905 Disadvantaged Business Enterprises Short Term Lending Program

Grants are also often given to non profit groups or organizations involved in training or other similar activities (grant 59.043 Women’s Business Ownership Assistance that are given to those who will create women’s business center that will train women entrepreneurs

For private grants, you may want to check the Foundation Center’s Foundation Grants for Individuals Online. It’s a subscription based website ($9.95 per month) but their opening blurb only says that the database is ideal for "students, artists, academic researchers, libraries and financial aid offices." Entrepreneurs are apparently not one of them, so I take it they also don’t have listings of private foundations who give grants to would-be entrepreneurs.
