Domain Name Trap?

I was contacted by a domain broker in the US (I’m in UK), and was given a very generous offer for a .com domain. After initiating a sell/buy via SEDO, I was sent a sale agreement by the broker. The agreement was a generic type, and specifies that both seller/buyer has the right to expect compliance with the agreement within a reasonable time.

Problem – I’ve signed and sent back the agreement, and SEDO have invoiced the buyer for escrow payment. That was 17 days ago. With such a time delay, I’ve contacted the buyer several times to enquire if they are still interested in the domain name, and why the payment has not arrived at SEDO. They fail to respond to all emails, though before contacting them was easy.

Problem – Am I legally bound to sell the domain name to them, no matter how long they intend to hold-back payment (weeks, months, years!), or is there a ‘reasonable time’ factor involved with such things? Have I been duped?

BTW – I’ve yet to receive their signed agreement.

Thanks

sorry but you have been conned!!
put it down to experiance.

How to effectively start a website? I am looking to start a website…?

I am looking to start a website, not for for a typical business or service, but informational purposes only. Providing links and photos to other various websites of my interest. My question is how profitable is an "informational" website? How much money on average can be gained through various types of advertising? Is it measured in hits, clicks or what?

What are the top few places to register a domain name? I’m looking for statistics on traffic, website builders (that don’t look too generic), email, etc.?

Also, what are the worst places to purchase domain names?

Thanks!

I have signup with an online job site and is free. You don’t have to pay anything. Interested email me.

Good ideas for a domain name plz?

I’ll be hosting all sorts of different stuff on there, because the hosting plan is virtually unlimited. So I want something kind of generic or just plain weird because this will be an umbrella for all of my wacky interwebz ideas. "Boatcake" is like my favorite made up word but that’s already taken. Just two random words put together. Something that sounds cool. Thanks.
I’m looking into a list of Autechre track titles… I’ll find something good here.
omfg can it be? josso the former watmm member? lol quite a coincidence.

Something short and preferably a commonly used search term (if you are looking for attracting a lot of traffic). Either that or something unique and short. Try to avoid special characters like hyphens and make it easy to remember! (By the way I own http://josso.co.uk but I snapped that up in 2004, 5 characters).

How to do domain name business ?

buy multiple domains [say ~300 nos] build some simple 5 page webs retain for a period of [say 3 years] then sell it

buy a single domain [with all extension .com / .net / .org / .info] and point the three to (dot)com develop to a maxm possible extent for a period of 3 years [ either sell it or get ad revenue]

which is the best option among the two "i didnt have any personal experience on this"

however a little bit research on this subject reveals that maintain a single domain is best & quite profitable

i request all of our friends to place their opinion on this

thankful to all … dears & nears

i will buy only generic keyword embedded and not with an intension to grab money by using some extensions of renowned business

This is not advisable to buy domains , keep them with yourself and then sell it, it used to be great but nowa………

Shouldn’t there be some sort of regulation over domain name resellers?

I get so sick of dealing with this stuff. How can these people have the nerve to ask $100+ for something that cost them $8-$15 to register.
It just kills me that i get clients that have certain domain names in mind, i search for the domains and find they have been registered, but the site is just some generic page with a big "This domain is for sale." When i tell the client how much it costs, it might seem like i am trying to jack the price up on them.
I had one client that was dead set on the domain name, so i purchased it for $100 and then had to renew the registration 3 months after the purchase.
I am very reasonable on my pricing when it comes to design, i dont pump the price of the registration or hosting up. How do i tell clients that the site name they want, which should cost $8-$15 to register for a year, costs 10-20x’s more.

I know i could appeal to the ICANN to try to get the domain, but the process would take too long.
mike, that is true to an extent, but if thats acceptable behavior, then why would ICANN take domains away from people so it can be used for a legitimate business?
They may have registered it and held the registration for some time, but they do not own anything. The government owns it. We are basically leasing it

yes there should and those should be illigal

What is the cheapest top-level domain name?

As in the last part of the domain name:
www.example.(HERE)
It doesn’t matter if it’s country-specific or generic, as long as there aren’t any registration limitations.
I am looking for throwaway domains to add to subdomains on my main (.com) site, and various other projects that don’t need a major TTLD.
So far .info seems like my best bet.

Godaddy has a sale on .info domains.

www.example.info

Price: $1.19

(It’s $0.99 + $0.20 ICANN fee)

Changing a Domain name….?

We have found that our existing domain name is very similar to another, unrelated business’ name. It is also generic or does not really indicate what our business is.

I would like to create a new domain name that is more specific.

What is the simplest and best approach to keeping the existing domain but having visitors seamlessly sent to the new domain w/o adversely affecting search placement results?

(All of our marketing materials and email addresses, etc. all have the current domain, so we are loathe to just up and replace the existing one…)

Domain forwarding – the company that hosts your site can set it up for you.

It’s pretty simple. I have five domains that all go to one site (in case of misspellings).

How can I get the Server to run a website?

I have a domain name registered with generic DNS and I have a server that is running and connected to a network and runing fine. I was able to configure the mail part but I can’t get the website to run. Whenever I type the IP address on IE6 I get an error that says
"Error Code: 403 Forbidden. The server denied the specified Uniform Resource Locator (URL). Contact the server administrator. (12202) "
Is there a website or any way that you can help or direct to what to do?

By the way I have windows 2003 servers small business

and also how can I get the DNS primary name server in windows 2003 servers
The website works inside the network. If I type the address or the domain name of the website it works fine and great.

Im not and expert, but it could be a firewall problem, try turning off the router firewall or the windows one on the computer ( in security center )

And windows software is also not the best for web stuff ( unsafe ) try apache ( linux and windows compatible )
Dont be scared by linux, try ubuntu

How can I take my domain from Yellow pages .com?

My business domain name was bought for me through my yellow pages rep. Everyone that I have talked to, even the reps, say that I OWN the domain name. Business is very slow right now, and I cannot afford to pay these bloodsuckers for their outrageous hosting prices and their generic looking cookie cutter website. My question is How do I take my domain from their clutches so that I can get a better deal on hosting and an overall better website?

Hiya,

You should contact the person that has your name and say " I want to xfer my domain name to another hosting company". I host many name at DN15.com. If they are truly a decent company they will not have a problem with it. Once in your name 100% you can work with someone to develop a nice site and cheap hosting. DN15.com even can host for free. I hope this helps. DN15.com is also owned by a Navy Vet, like me.
