Some people can use bots to steal domains at the last minute on SnapNames.com companies like 260.com (aka Anthony Peppler who as of Sept 11th, 2007 is being sued by Microsoft for 9.5 million for cybersquatting) has done this and alot of companies like his (most of these companies use thousands of generic domain names for paid search and development purposes sometimes regardless if it’s trademark fraud or not.)
Does anyone know how they can use a bot at the last minute to win a bid on SnapNames.com and wouldn’t this be against ICANN violations. It seems SnapNames.com is aware of this but yet they don’t seem to do anything about it. I had a friend who had a domain stolen from him in the last second from a company like 260.com because they used a bot.
I have aquired one of my domains through godaddy.com by putting an advance request for the domain. The moment the domain became available godaddy purchased it for me.

I want to have a generic URL appear for every page.
Example: www.go2sanfran.com should appear on page when people search the site instead of: www.go2sanfran.com/question/?link=ask&l=c&qid=&title=&eval_final
The reason for this is I have multiple domain names on the same root that I do not want the root to show.
Example: www.go2sanfran.com is the main site.
I also have sanfraniscool.com and sanfranfun.com. I have them redirected to use the directory www.go2sanfran.com and appear but if they need to use any folder under the files of sanfraniscool.com the URL displays http://www.go2sanfran.com/sanfraniscool/links
Thanks!
You could probably achieve this using frames. With frames, the url shown in the browser doesn’t need to change at all.
Try a tutorial like http://www.htmlcodetutorial.com/frames/frames.html
Of course, you can’t completely hide the true urls and domain names. A savy user can know where to look in his browser to find that info.

For example, if you buy a domain name and have it forwarded to a clickbank affiliate link, is there any way to track the visitors that actually clicked on your domain name? It seems to me that this would be impossible since there would be no sourcecode on your actual domain name as it’s being forwarded to the affiliate link…
Does anyone know of anything that would make this possible? I know that clickbank has a generic tracking system, but I would like to see detailed stats on visitors.
Thanks
If you really need to see detailed stats on your visitors, then there are two ways:
1 – Redirect with your domain and add the Google Analytics to the code. Not the best way but it will work.
2 – Use tracking 202 at http://www.tracking202.com
You can find methods, tips, trick and tools for tracking here:

I have a domain name which i own and would like to redirect the name to my virgin medai server. the DNS entries i have are
DNS1.NTLI.NET
DNS2..NTLI.NET
surely I need more information than this to spcify this my personal space rather than a generic DNS name ie should there be additional information on the end of the name denoting my space
No, you do not need more information than this to get your domain name to work with Virgin Media.
The two servers that Virgin Media has given you the address for (DNS1.NTLI.NET and DNS2.NTLI.NET) are nameservers. In fact, let’s look at this in a simpler way:
When your domain name is entered into a browser (or anything else), the computer will look up the IP address of the computer that that domain points to, as you probably already know. But how is this done?
Lots of nameservers! First, we ask some Internet root servers where the nameservers for your top level domain registry (like Verisign for .com or Nominet for .co.uk).
Then we ask the top level domain registry for your domain (example.com for the sake of argument) what the authoritative name servers for example.com are. Those will of course be the above mentioned "DNS1.NTLI.NET" and "DNS2.NTLI.NET".
We then query the NTLI.NET nameservers regarding example.com. Where is example.com?
DNS1.NTLI.NET (or DNS2) will respond with an IP address.
So your answer is that in terms of DNS lookups, that’s all you need, as the nameservers will respond differently based on what domain is being fed to them.

I have a really good, generic .com domain I want register and sell. If I signed up using the following website, how long would it be before I could sell it? The website is http://www.register.com/promo/acquisitions_8772090537.rcmx?trkID=SEMJ78Vw4W.
If you wait about a week after your credit card charge goes through, you will probably have full ownership of the domain. Then, if you can find a buyer, you can sell it. Most domain ownership is instant, but if you wait a week after you are charged, I think you could safely consider it yours!

Can anyone help me find any software, script which helps find domain name which are lying idle. Domains where nothing is being hosted by the owner, or do not resolve to anything, or doesn’t show a parked page or shows a generic placeholder page of the hosting provider or of the registrar where the domain was registered. Basically domain names which are not being used.
I rather know a web service that will basically list all the unused web domains. You can use it at:
http://www.bustaname.com/
All you have to do is give a phrase combined with all the keywords related to the domain. The service then gives you a list of unused websites
