Web page, domain names, startup, and web hosting?

So let’s stay optimistic here… I will be the next dot com millionaire. My idea is fresh and will be very rewarding. I’d like to start by acquiring my domain name. I will obviously have to pay a site for web hosting. What site offers the best rates for the most space? What is the best web page design program out there? Just looking for some cold hard facts on starting up and delivering a quality web page. Thanks in advance.

There are many web hosting providers and you might become confused to choose which one. It is very important that you choose a good web host. Good doesn’t mean expensive. Good means reliable with great support. When you choose a web host, make sure they have excellent support. If you have a problem with your web site you want help now, not in a day or two.

It can be confusing when choosing a web hosting company because they all look pretty much the same and they seem like they know what they are doing. However, I recommend reading reviews from reliable websites so that you may compare and become more familiar with the hosting companies before making a decision. I am a web designer and I have changed back and forth from many companies over the years but my favorite one is FatCow. I am moving all my websites to them as the contracts expire.

How do I get my own domain name back?

My domain name is no longer active. I want to go with a new web hoster, but if I type in the name of the domain name I want (my old one that just expired), it says it is in use and gives my information to get in touch with me! My old web hoster (quality host online) still has my old domain name that no one is using. It is very hard to get in touch with this web hosting service. Hopefully this all made sense. What do I do? Thanks!
Umm, nevermind. Seems that both of my domain names are suddenly free. I guess there was a temporary hold after my agreement ended. Thank you all for your help!

Well, usually your web host will notify you that it is expiring. Check there FAQ, if they have one, you might find your question there. If not email them, if I had more information on web host I might be able to point you more of in the right direction. If it is with a national host, they might put it up for auction. I know this isn’t your web host but it might give you some of the information you might be looking for. I hoped this helped.

Where can I get free,quality hosting {and a free domain name} without banners,ads,popups,gimmicks,etc?

I’m learning how to build a website.
I found a host that seemed to offer very good service…
until I read the fine print (TOS) and discovered that
anything posted on their free servers becomes THEIR property — including copyrights etc!

Well, it’s really hard nowdays to find a good free host. There’s a lot of them just throwing promises!

But you can try to seek here. Probably it’s there

Quality aside, what is the lowest priced place to register a website domain name?

And I can’t have one that’s an extension of another, either.

Ie. "example.yahoo.mydomain.you.gov/mememe" is not aloud

If you are planning on setting up a website and you do not already have a hosting company, you may be able to get the domain name free as part of your hosting package. When i set up my site / domain, I got the domain name for free as part of my hosting plan. If this is not the case, www.godaddy.com is relatively inexpensive and popular place to purchase a domain name.

Hope this helps.

Registering and parking misspelled names is considered a bad practice?

I have a small portfolio and it contains misspelled names of famous companies.

I noticed some parking services must approve your portfolio prior to letting you open an account with them. So I was wondering if traffic originated from typos is considered "low quality" and if registering domain names based on spelling mistakes is generally considered a bad practice.

Nothing really wrong with it unless your usage intentions are bad. The parking service is free to deny you an account for whatever reason they see fit, but I am sure there are some that couldn’t care less.

One thing, however, is that this is a known issue with spammers, so most services will probably assume that is your intention.

With out sacrificing quality and functionality, where is the cheapest/free place to get a domain name and host?

I am just getting into web design / coding and I was wondering where I could go as a beginner to get a domain name and host for cheap

I would recommend registering with JordanSoft, http://www.JordanSoft.com; it is a Wild West Domain reseller similar to GoDaddy. This reseller is cheaper than GoDaddy for most of the same products. Buying from http://www.JordanSoft.com or GoDaddy makes no difference in service, but you can compare prices to save you a few bucks.

For Domain Name registration:

.COM: $9.99/year on GoDaddy, $7.99/year on http://www.JordanSoft.com

.NET: $12.99/year on GoDaddy, $6.49/year on http://www.JordanSoft.com

.ORG: $14.99/year on GoDaddy, $7.99/year on http://www.JordanSoft.com

And you will have everything you need to get started online for free, you get the following FREE with every domain:

. Free Personalized E-Mail Account: Free Fraud, spam and virus protected email that includes 1 GB of total storage

. Free Ad-Supported Hosting: Reliable and backed by 24/7 support, includes 10 GB of Disk Space, 150 GB of Transfer, Windows or Linux, FTP Access, and much more.

. Total DNS Control

. Free Forwarding/Masking

. Free Photo Album

. Free Blog

I want to make a website for my video game, i want to have a forum, i dont need to many pages, but i want like package. and i want my own domain name. Please help me out of where to get started and remember i want it to be cheap.

check My Webbie Hosting’s Lite Plan. The plan is very affordable – it only costs $3.95//month, and it already includes a free domain name. This plan includes 1.5 G disk space, 150 G bandwidth, 50 email accounts etc. PHP scripts such as smf and phpbb2 (forum software) were already preinstalled and thus you activate them by just choosing them through the control panel.

What are good sites for buying domain names and hosting websites for 2 small professional quality businesses?

I’m just getting started and new to this so I would greatly appreciate it if you had personal experiences with the providers and could share your experiences — either good or not so good! Thanks!
Does it make any difference where the host is located? I’m in the US, for example.

Also, since I would need to design the site myself, I noticed that some sites have templates, others not so. And… what if you would like to set up a blog? I’m working in a Windows environment not Linux.

What about some of the "big guys" such as register.com, networksolutions.com, tucows, windows live’s small business sites (supposedly much is free?), yahoo (sorry yahoo, had to ask!), and "Godaddy.com"?

I’ve heard most don’t have very good support for relative newbies.
Thanks! I appreciate all the help!

There are a few great web hosts out there that can assist you in achieving your expectations for your website. Most web hosts will include your domain name and register it for you as part of the hosting package. There are even web hosts that will assist you in setting up a blog on your domain. I would suggest that you take a look at several hosting options so that you know you are getting the best match. While comparing, first compare feature-by-feature then dollar-for-dollar. Using this process will ensure that you get the best fit for your needs and the most value for your money. Also keep your expectations in mind. What kind of appearance do you desire? What kind of features do you expect to have? How sill you drive targeted traffic (visitors) to your site? And so on…
As you seek you will find out more expectations and find features that will compliment your site. With the host I use, they have great tools for beginners. They have also assisted me in blogging through my site and we send out a ezine (newsletter) each month. All my work has been learned through assistance. The web host I use even analyzes my work for best results. There are other great hosts out there too. If you would like to look at the host that I use as one of your options you can see them at http://find.sitesell.com/UnstoppableDreams.html
I would be happy to share more about my experiences and give you some tips if you’d like.

BEST WISHES!
