If i buy a domain name, why do I have to wait 60 days to transfer it ?
I don’t know who I want to host the domain yet .. i don’t want to wait 60 days though for it to transfer .. where can i park the domain name so that i can use it anywhere without waiting once i decide what server i want to host it ?

Use Yahoo. They really are the best. I have MANY domains through them. The reason you have to wait is it’s a pain in the a s s to go through the process later. Hosts and resellers know that once you have the name and your hosting setup you are VERY unlikely to flip flop and change. NO I don’t work for Yahoo. I just like the way they do business.

I am thinkin they mean to transfer your domain account to another person, like you are going to sell it to someone else. As far as using it, you should be able to link it to your site immediately.

You can have you _domain_ hosted on your registrar, AND have your _WEBSITE_ hosted somewhere else. There’s no minimum time.. A “transfer” is when you change registrar, not web hosting. So there is a minimum time of 60 days before you can change domain hosting, not web hosting.
Once you get a web hosting that works with domain names, you simply point your Nameservers (on your registrar’s website) to those that the web host gives you.

Transferring a domain name can be rather confusing. It depends on the INTENT behind it.
Do you want to simply change website hosts? Do you want to transfer your domain registration from your CURRENT provider for whatever reason?
The one you’re asking about is the latter: not being able to transfer your domain name REGISTRATION to another domain provider for 60 days. This is because there’s a current “rule” from an authoritative figure (which I’ll include below) that only allows domain registrations to be transferred out after 60 days from its initial creation date.
If the domain name is registered on Oct. 23 and you want to transfer it to, say, Go Daddy because you’re unhappy with Yahoo, then you’ll only be able to do so roughly on Dec. 23.
Based on your query, your real question is what you want your domain name to “show” while you’re still working on its “actual” site. Just leave it with Yahoo or whoever for the time being, although I don’t know if Yahoo has their own parking servers to temporarily use.
