How do you host and create a .com domain from your computer?
I was wondering how to host AND CREATE a .com domain name from your computer. My main concern is creating a .com domain name. I know there are going to be people that say just use this site but I actually want to create my own .com domain and not have to buy one from another company like godaddy.com, justhost.com etc. and then host it from my computer. I was wondering if this is done with Windows Server 2003/2008? If you know please give me a link to a tutorial or just type the answer. Thanks.
You aint creating .com domain, that’s for sure. You have to BUY that service…thats it. no questions asked.

Sorry but you do have to buy the domain name, normally offered by yearly subscription.
Normally you shouldn’t have to worry about managing your own DNS server and just use your provider’s.
Then you need to determine which language you want to web site to be built in to decide which web server you’ll have to install.
Personally I like PHP so I use a Linux installation (gentoo distribution in my case) with mySql, Apache and PHP, of course.
If you’re not comfortable in finding the needed documentation for these steps (in whatever platform you choose), then you should look for a web host or take a course.

It is possible to create and host your own website through windows server 2003.. but only computers within your network can access the website.. not everyone on the internet..
