What constitutes as safe information to give out to verify your identity?

I signed up for a yahoo account over 10 years ago, as an 8th grade student. It has a credit card info on file and a domain name. But, I can’t remember the password to renew it. They are increasing the domain pricing to $34.95 (from $1.95). I’ve tried faxing and emailing them my information several times this past month. I’m not getting through to them. I’m suspicious that I’m somehow not getting to the right department, although I am contacting through Yahoo help. Am I being phished?

I have sent them a copy of my California ID and DMV card. My social security info, photo id, and all the information requested below. Since I can’t remember the secret answer or question, they are requesting that I send the last 8 digits of my credit card. I don’t want to change my credit card since I’d have to change a bunch of other accounts. But, it doesn’t seem safe to me for them to have all that information.

This is the email they keep sending to me:

Please fax the information to:

That is too much information that you are giving them. Find out first if this is yahoo. Could be someone trying to rob your identity.

have serious reservations about this. Yahoo already know your info and should not need it faxed to them. I feel sure this is a scam. Please be careful and send the detail to this abuse link abuse link http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/yahoomail/abuse.html
