[uncensored] This is the truth behind what could be the most devastating blow to the internet to date. It’s very short but it will give you all the information you need to know to protect yourself against this bill. TRANSCRIPT: “While most of you have heard of both SOPA and PIPA, I’m here to tell you that there is a much greater threat out there. This is known as ICANN. They help you in getting a domain for you if you are interested in creating a website, BUT you must first give them your personal information to gain this ‘government approved’ ID for your website. If you violate there rules, by say pirating a movie, they already have your information so they can come and arrest you. STOP ICANN BEFORE WORRYING ABOUT SOPA AND PIPA.” (ps) If the video is black for the first few seconds, just keep watching. The video should come up soon enough.
Wijayananda Jayaweera, Director, Communication Development Sector, UNESCO, talks to Rod Beckstrom, President and CEO of ICANN. The video was made in Paris on 10 December 2009, when ICANN signed a cooperation agreement with UNESCO to assist with the process of expanding the adoption of Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs). IDNs are non-Latin based characters that can now be used on a limited initial basis in the top-level domain portion of an Internet address name, which is that portion of the name that is to the right of the dot, such as .com. The “Ask the Experts” series of videos was created for busy viewers seriously considering the challenge of starting a new generic top-level domain (gTLD). Running a new gTLD actually means operating an Internet registry. In this series, CEOs from existing registries share what they wish they had known as they began — but instead, had to learn from hard-won experience. In this episode, the experts point out the vital importance of commanding an operations staff that has plenty of technical depth.
