Where can I get an absolutely free domain name?
Every time I click on a link that says "Free domain name," it either means no weekly/monthly/etc. fee or no one-time fee at the beginning, but never both. I need something with absolutely no fees.
Oh, and I don’t really care about ads. If it’s free, I’ll go with it.
sorry, no such thing.
i’ve tried whole nights trying to look for just that…
nope.
free just doesn’t exist for completely custom domain names.

Registering a domain name requires a fee. In order for a company to give out free domains, they would need to pay a fee for each domain, and they have to renew each domain per year, which again means more fees. This would literally cost millions in order for a company to do this – millions that they don’t have.
Don’t forget that you will also have to fill out your personal information as well. And anyone can then find your personal information through a whois database by searching your domain name. Your email address. Your phone number. Your address. Everything will be on public record. There is no way to avoid this.
Ok. We have established that there is no such thing as a free domain. Now onto hosting.
A domain is separate from its hosting. A domain is just a domain. The domain provider doesn’t control whether you get ads or not. It’s the hosting provider. Although you could get your domain namd and hosting from the same place, you would most likely have to get them through different places. If you do choose to buy a domain name, it’s easier to purchase a domain name from a domain provider like GoDaddy and get your hosting from a separate reputable domain provider. It’ll be easier to manage your domain that way if you choose to go with a different hosting provider for whatever reason.
There are sites that offer free domain hosting, but you will not get everything you want. You will not get unlimited space. You will not unlimited bandwidth. You will not get all of the features that you want. You probably will get tons of ads all over the place, so it’s good that you don’t mind ads. You will also suffer from a lot of downtime. And to top it all of, you will probably have to move from one crappy free host to another since I doubt that the hosting company would offer their services for free forever, even if they are crappy services.
As a person with a $0 budget, you have to understand that you can not expect to get the same things that a person would normally have to pay for for free. It’s ridiculous to expect that.

You can try to earn a domain name from a place like http://ezyrewards.com .
You could visit http://domain-4free.com or http://hyperwebenable.com . I’m pretty sure that they both put ads on your site. You also have to get a certain amount of hits per day/month.
You could go to http://co.cc or http://freedns.afraid.org for a free subdomain that looks quite nice (e.g. you.co.cc or you.biz.tm) and has DNS control (so it can act like a real domain name i.e. people can link to different parts of your site).
You could go to http://dot.tk , http://co.nr or http://smartdots.com for a free domain name like you.tk, you.co.nr or you.net.tc (plus many more choices). They don’t force any ads on you (except for co.nr) and they don’t have any DNS control.

There are no free domains. Owning a real domain will cost you anywhere from $7.50 – $10 for a years ownership. Shared hosting will cost you around $8 to $10 a month. Anything else will turn out to be pretty scammy.
If you are looking to use a site to make friends and share items, I would recommend starting out with blogger.com or wordpress.org. Both are very powerful blogging type sites with many options. Also, both sites also will teach you much needed steps to be able to maintain and manage a real domain in the future.
Once you have an established blog with either of the two, you can then purchase a domain for around $10 per year and run it through blogger.com or wordpress.org for free. This option will save you the monthly hosting fee
Two Different Routes About Owning a Domain:
Route 1: Domains are registered for a year at a time. To purchase a domain name a person goes to a domain register like GoDaddy.com, types in the name they want, if it is avaliable.. you can purchase it for around $10/year.
After you purchase the domain, you will need to host the domain, which is around $8-$10 a month for shared hosting.
This is the more expensive route and the route which require more ramp up time faster. The good news is both the domain register company and the hosting company normally is more than happy to help you through any process. I personally use GoDaddy.com for domain purchases and HostGator.com for domain hosting, both are very helpful.
Route 2: I would recommend starting out with blogger.com or wordpress.org. Both are very powerful blogging type sites with many options. Also, both sites also will teach you much needed steps to be able to maintain and manage a real domain.
Once you have an established blog with either of the two, you can then purchase a domain for around $10 per year and run it through blogger.com or wordpress.org for free. This option will save you the monthly hosting fee which is around $10 a month. Both sites have detailed information on how to run your blog through your domain.
If you have additional questions feel free to contact me as I own a domain company and enjoy helping others.
