How does a question become a gaming violation?
Recently, I posted a question in Seniors that was deleted for a gaming violation. I really can’t find anything in the guidelines about gaming as such and would like help in finding the answer.
Here’s the background:
Deleted Question: Do you do the middle-aged two step?
Violation Reason:Gaming
I filed in Seniors to see if (1) anyone knew what the middle-aged two-step was and (2) to provide the cartoon that was basis for the name. This was wholly appropriate as going into a room and forgetting why you went there is a common experience as we age. Documentation was provided with the cartoon showing its origin, authors, etc. As there have been numerous comments by other seniors about some of the annoyances of aging (as in forgetfulness), this should not have been deleted for offensive nature as it’s quite common.
I fail to see how this relates to "gaming" which is defined as a noun: "The act or practice of playing games for stakes or wagers; gambling." in Webster’s Unabridged Dictionary, Public Domain. As no bets were placed and no monies were awarded, I wasn’t gambling or inciting others to gamble.
I do not see how I violated community guidelines. I proposed a question, added extra information, and chose the best answer, all in standard Y!A format.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
This wasn’t a game as in the "baby name games" and those go on all the time in the Baby Names section.
So, what information can you offer?
I posted this in the general Y!A category for a broader response but I’m interested in the Seniors’ responses since I originally posted the question here.
Thanks.
It all depends on who reported the question, and how he interpreted it. Presently the seniors section has a, self appointed, ‘master interpreter’ who is also the ‘reporter at large’.
He has tasked himself with the unofficial duty of ridding the seniors section of unnecessary Q’s and A’s, and desires that we keep this site as one that "we can all enjoy". Apparently, it was decided that your question was NOT one that "we could all enjoy".
He also decides WHO will ask questions, but he is now in charge, so we must accept that.
Oh, that was cute; there are many games being played on this site.

My answer is …I believe someone must have reported your Q as a violation in the respect of (chatting-playing games) familiarity w/each other, which this person had to had to have been, to have reported as such, this is my take on this matter. it is unfortunate that friendly exchanges are being discouraged! this is my opinion and my answer.

I recently read about this on the YA blog and I was still unsure what it meant. I have since asked again for a clarification on this.
It would be to ones advantage if they cited the rule violation in a more specific manner.
Hope to find the answer to this.

Yahoo defines gaming as gathering of points. Giving your friends points, or yourself thru another acc. or such. More likely, the reporter just used that to report.

I understand your frustration. I had two questions deleted the day before yesterday. I don’t use swear words or get vulgar and sure hope not rude very often, bit I mentioned that seniors are prettiy tame compared to some other forums, such as pollls and another I won’t mention again. Senior share many common imterests and even different inertests and I think we should have the freedom to speak of what we want. Go check polls and a few others. I don’t wan to use anyone as an example. I blabbed my mouth too much. I am just me.

I thought the two step was a dance, come to think of it, it is, proper name is the Military Two Step.
I hope you have appealed, and will get your question put back, some people who do not understand a question, report it.

The question ‘ do you do the M. A. two step ‘ is not a question seeking information as the YA people require. The answers to that would be considered chatting. If you had worded it ‘ How do you do the two step ‘ it would be OK.
But let’s face it. It is embarrassingly trivial and only the self appointed sheriff is concerned about it and reports.
I just had one ( actually 2 deleted ) about a party. I knew when I wrote it that it was not a legal question, but it got many fun answers and we all enjoyed it except of course, the sheriff. My only surprise was, ‘ What took so long? ‘

Hmmm – I have heard of the Tennessee Quick-Step, but don’t think that it is related to gaming. It mostly involved a hurried step to the nearest outhouse.

I have no idea. Please make an appeal. However, the answer is a yes or no answer. Something Answers would prefer you not do, but it is not a violation.
