CASE STUDIE

1. SCHOOL LIBRARY
A school wants to create an information system for its three libraries namely Duncan House, Dockland and Stratford. Each library has a number of employees, one who is designated as the manager of the library and is responsible for supervising employees and the general day-to-day management of the library. Each library stores items, which comprises of a number of books and DVDs.

A student must register to become a member of a library before they are allowed to borrow any item, but thereafter can borrow items from any other library. To register, staff collects the prospective member’s personal details, verify them and confirm their registration. Books are stored on shelves and DVDs are stored in a number of racks in the centre of the library. To borrow books, staff verifies the member’s details and check if they have unpaid fines from the members records before given the book out.

A library stocks a number of copies of each book title and each DVD. Details of book publishers are maintained but not DVD publishers. To find an item, members conduct search based on the book/DVD title, the author/artist’s name, the category of the book/DVD, or the publisher’s name.

Task 1 (use case modelling)
Define and:
•Work out the actors, system boundary, use cases and use cases descriptions in the case..
•Produce high level and second level use case diagrams for the case study selected.
•The use case diagrams must have <<extend>> and <<include>>
•The use case specification (must include both basic and alternative courses)

Task 2 (Class modelling):
Use the use-case model that you developed in task 1 to generate class diagram for the case study. This will include
•The list of classes in the problem domain and attributes that are relevant to the use case
•All possible class (objects) and their roles
•Attributes and operations for each class
•All static associations between classes, and their cardinalities

Task 3 (Sequence diagram modelling):

From the use case model and class diagram, finally, generate:
1.A sequence diagram for two of the use cases.
2.These must define:
1.all instance objects in the sequence diagram
2.all messages for the use case, and
3.the list of operations from the use case specification

Task 4 (generation of program code):

From the use case model and class and sequence diagram generate:
3.Program code for each of the classes.
4.Using the use case and sequence diagram incorporate methods etc

Note the program can be in either VB or Java but they should not be working codes. All diagrams must be generated using a Case Tools such as Rational Rose or Star UML.
