Safest way to pay this agency who’s possibly a scammer?
There’s this UK-based agency that helps international students in studying in the UK. I tried almost every way to verify the existence and legitimacy of that company. The company has its own website but according to those who answered my question here in the past, having a domain does not guarantee the legitimacy of the company. I got in touch with Companies House, domain providers, UK government agencies, and every institution that you can think of. None of them was able to help me,
Pardon me if I cannot tell you guys about the company’s name, website, and kind of information/service I need from them as I don’t wanna accuse them of something I’m not sure about. It’s just an international student matter and my question below is very general.
Now, I need to pay the service fee for them to disclose the info I need and process several papers for my studies in the UK (I know anyone can do this himself/herself but for a reason, I really need their help). My question is: what is the safest way to pay them so I can get my money back if I don’t get the service they promised to give me? and why do you think it’s safe? How about Paypal? Money transfer? Bank transfer? Western Union? what? And have you got any advice for me about paying? (No more verification, background checks and contacting UK authorities, please)
Thanks.
I can do it myself if and only if I have enough money to fund my tuition fees. Unfortunately, I don’t. The info they’re going to give me is about financing my studies.
Of course, it’s a business and that is why it charges a fee for their service.
Why would you want to pay someone to do something that
- you can do yourself?
- might be a scam and taking you for a ride?
I would do it yourself or look into a different company. I would not take the risk. And I certainly would make sure I go through an escrow account or go and get a Cashiers check from a bank and pay for it with cash. if I was going to continue through with this company. That way there is NO way for them to trace the trail back to your account. I personally wouldn’t do it though.

There’s no really safe way. You say you can do it yourself – then do it yourself. That way there are no questions.

if it takes that much work to speak to a human or get references, then they are probably not legit – having to pay money is the first scammer tip off and if they are a scam, you will not get your money back
