Many Internet services use SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) connections to encrypt data that travels between your computer and their server. This week, Stacy Reed shows us Google’s encrypted web search @ butterscotch.com: bit.ly
Well basically, today I got internet on my laptop by having an ethernet cable connected from main computer to my laptop via a Linksys cable modem. So, we all thought it worked until I tried to install Windows Live Messenger (I tried this on IE) and it came up with this:
The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.

Please try the following:
Click the Refresh button, or try again later.
If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly.
To check your connection settings, click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Connections tab, click Settings. The settings should match those provided by your local area network (LAN) administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).
If your Network Administrator has enabled it, Microsoft Windows can examine your network and automatically discover network connection settings.
If you would like Windows to try and discover them,
click Detect Network Settings
Some sites require 128-bit connection security. Click the Help menu and then click About Internet Explorer to determine what strength security you have installed.
If you are trying to reach a secure site, make sure your Security settings can support it. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section and check settings for SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, PCT 1.0.
Click the Back button to try another link.
so I tried on Firefox and it came up with this:
Address Not Found
download.microsoft.com could not be found. Please check the name and try again.
The browser could not find the host server for the provided address.
Did you make a mistake when typing the domain? (e.g. “ww.mozilla.org” instead of “www.mozilla.org”)
* Are you certain this domain address exists? Its registration may have expired.
* Are you unable to browse other sites? Check your network connection and DNS server settings.
* Is your computer or network protected by a firewall or proxy? Incorrect settings can interfere with Web browsing.
Most pages I can’t seem to get onto on both IE and MF. I am on my laptop now on Yahoo Answers, and this site works fine. I have googled for help and it says about turning of Firewalls etc, but I don’t have a Firewall on this laptop I don’t think because I had to do a Hraddrive reset not too long ago and everything got reset to as if it was a brand new laptop. My laptop is Windows XP. I have done everything that it says to do on the error pages, yet still nothing.
Does anyone know what the problem is? Thanks.
Sparkie177@aol.com is my email if this is easier. Thanks.

www.freeline report.com Following Google’s decision last week to block AdSense from web sites less than five days old, it looks like ICANN is removing the five day trial period for owning a domain name. This would stop the practice that was abused by “Domain Tasters” — people who take out a name for four days, put up Google ads, collect the money from the ads, and then cancel the name before they have to pay for it. So now, no return policy on domain names. You’re going to have to be really sure before you pull the trigger on that $7 domain name. http For those of you who might like to watch the Free Line Report offline, a tool known as Miro might be just the thing for you. It’s free, and it allows you to grab any video with an RSS Feed (including YouTube videos) and store them on your hard drive to watch at a later time, just like podcasts and iTunes. www.freelinereport.com Firefox is clearly the web browser for SEO enthusiasts, with so many useful plugins and tools that it’s hard to keep up with all of them. To help you navigate and pick the best of the best, TopRankBlog.com has a great article listing all the top SEO plugins for Firefox. (And of course, they’re all free.) www.freelinereport.com MySpace releases its new developer platform this week, and it’s going to support Google’s Open Social platform support right out of the box. Not that anyone else is, but this should be a shot in the arm for open Social. Since FaceBook made its platform portable to every web …
