9th ICANN Studienkreis – The Future of Internet Governance part 3


PART 3 The Internet Governance Forum (IGF), one of the main outcomes of the UN World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), will have its 3rd meeting in Hyderabad/India in December 2008. The IGF is developing into an innovative new global multistakeholder policy development platform for Internet Governance. But also other institutions are moving forward. ICANNs Joint Project Agreement (JPA) terminates in October 2009. OECD has added after its Ministerial Meeting in Seoul (June 2008) Internet Governance to its list of high priorities. ITU will have its World Telecommunication Policy Forum (WTPF) on convergence and internet in March 2009. The panel will discuss the various options for future institutional arrangements on Internet Governance. It will also discuss how the IGF can be more efficiently linked to the broader challenge of sustainable development and the Millenium Development Goals (MDG).
